I also tried to look up some other art to see what it would come up with.  Again, the results were unexpected and intersting.

This is a pic I found of a work in progress by Joseph Albers.  You can see he was trying to figure out the color order for this print by taping pieces of colored paper together.  I thought it was interesting to see an artifact like this which documents his working method.  Anyway, here’s what I found when I plugged it in:

I found it strange that it didn’t find this photo, which seems much more similar than any that it did find.  It’s interesting how intelligence works, and how we see connections that are so clear and simple, yet to get a computer to do the same trick is so very difficult.

Then I plugged in a photo of one of my own paintings just to see what might come up:

And one last image.  I was trying to find out who this photograph was by.  It turned out to be a source photo used by Vija Celmins for one of her paintings (although Google did not help me out on this one either).

This could be an interesting avenue to explore artistically.

I recently watched this documentary on Ray Johnson.  He was a very inventive thinker, and like many introverts, a sad person.  He ended his life early, in a manner which was very symbolic and possibly was seen by him as his last work of art.

Ray sent art to friends as postcards through the mail, often asking them to add to them and send them on – in an artistic version of a chain letter.  I think my favorite tidbit from the doc was an anecdote about a friend wanting to buy a collage from Ray.  Ray offered him the collage for $2,000.  The friend offered $1,500 and Ray agreed, however, before mailing the piece, he cut off a quarter corner of the collage, thus supplying $1,500 worth of the original $2,000 collage.  I think that gives a lot of insight into the type of person Ray was.
