This isn’t the best photo, but see that super tall, white-haired dude in the crowd?  John Baldessari.  Yep, saw him at the last day of the Matisse exhibit at the MOMA in NY.  The show was amazing as was the Abstract Expressionism show that is also going on there currently.  Here’s a few pics from that, as well as a few from the mini Pop Art exhibit in the adjoining room.

Philip Guston’s work looks so contemporary to me.  I feel like I could run across this piece today at a gallery in LA.

Louise Nevelson built her sculptures out of wood scraps she found on the streets of NY.  I don’t think she’d be doing the same thing today…place would be crawling with bedbugs!!

Speaking of Lichtenstein, there was also a great exhibit of his graphite drawings at the Morgan Library (but photography was not allowed, so didn’t get any pics).

Just set up this cruiser board (with art by geoff mcfetridge) the other day.  Thanks to NHS for the Indy’s and Rictas.  Taking it with me this weekend up to the Sierras.  After hiking and camping, gonna skate this ditch.

Saturday night was the Girl Skateboards Art Dump show “Make The Logo Wooden” at The Little Bird Gallery in Atwater village.  It was a pretty small show with small mixed media works.  Here are a few shots:

On Sunday we went up into the Angeles Forest and did a little swimming and a little wine & cheesing.  The water was freezing, but it was a warm day, so it was pretty nice.  We did some cliff jumps into the pool and sat in the sun.

After that, I made a stop by Cleon Peterson’s home studio to do a little interview for Anthem Magazine.  The Peterson family is amazingly nice and Cleon’s work is ridiculously good.  We had a nice talk about graphic design, what constitutes “real” painting, the Bush administration, and the controlled chaos that is captured in his work.  The full interview and photos should post up on the site in a week or two and I will post a link when it does.  Until then, here’s a little taste.

“Initially when I dropped out of high school, I was on the road to becoming a painter.  I was into De Kooning and abstract expressionism, and modernist stuff.  I was doing quirky landscapes and flower paintings and stuff like that.  I’d had a lot of shows.  But then I got into drugs and I just put it down; I just didn’t chase after it like I had initially.”  - Cleon Peterson 4/26/09

Finally got a good crew together up to the waterfalls/swimming hole up in the Angeles National Forest this past weekend. It’s hard to believe that this is only a half hour outside LA. Anyway, the swimming was good, the wild blackberries even better, and the cliff jumps…well those are always fun. Maybe you can go next time.

We went and shot guns again last night.  12-gauge pistol grip to the head.
