New Painting Series of Bodega Grocery Signs

This is a new series of paintings I’m working on now.  At the bodegas and small local grocery marts around town, there are always these paintings of products on the windows or walls.  Their purpose is to advertise to people walking by that these goods are available inside.  Unlike the large grocery chains with budgets for advertising and slick signage, these local shops hire local artisans to hand-paint their signs.  They are so much more interesting than professionally printed posters or vinyl cut stickers.  Anyway, my concept is to take this commercial, non-”art” imagery, and flipping the context to fine art.  The pieces are acrylic and pencil on wood board, 19″ x 24″.
