When Jed and I were DJing at the Adidas store today on Melrose, Mike Mills (the director/artist, not the dude from REM) came in and bought a pair of shoes. He wore them out of the store, leaving his old shoes there (in the trash I assume). Wow. That’s a cool lesson in sparse living. I’ve heard of people doing that with jeans too. Just wearing one pair every day until they wear out, then buying another pair and discarding the old. You don’t see many snakes slithering around carrying their old shed skin now do you? Unfortunately, I don’t think I can head this lesson, but it’s something to admire. Or maybe Mike just stepped in some dog doo out on the sidewalk and didn’t want to bother cleaning his old shoes.
Also. Jed rides his bike to work every day and takes the metro. This allows him to see parts of the city that you don’t often catch in a car. He documents many of his finds on his blog La Bande Wagon.
